The MIAC – Italian Audio-visual and Cinema Museum – opens to the public, as one of the main projects included in the Rome City of Film – Unesco action plan. Set up in the Cinecittà studios, the MIAC – the first multimedia, interactive and immersive museum entirely dedicated to the the audio-visual genre in the capital city – develops through 12 main rooms on an area of 1,650 square meters, each one exploring a single topic: with immersive experiences, interactive installations and thematic deepenings, visitors will be able to discover Italy’s immense audiovisual heritage and live the stories of the big screen in a new, unconventional way.
Naturally, the Museum’s founding materials are: hundreds of films and pieces of archival footage (from the immense heritage of Istituto Luce and Teche Rai, and from partner archives), documents, photographs, interviews, theme tunes, backstage footage, graphics and radio recordings. This material and immaterial, 120-year-old heritage of visual civilization turns into an immersive and emotional experience thanks to interactive installations, video-art and transmedia languages. In the MIAC, film, TV and digital technology blend into a new language and a new genre.
The MIAC is open every day, except Tuesdays, from 9.30am to 6.30pm. Ticket office closing time: 4.30pm. Services will be available every hour for the public, with a 20-minute Focus session held by a qualified museum operator. This specific service is included in the ticket price of 10 euros. Focus sessions are available daily: at 11am and 3pm in English; at 12 noon in French.
