A love story set in the psychelic Sixties, the turbulent years of the anti-war protests, experimentation with drugs, and rock ‘n roll. All this and more in Across the Universe by Julie Taymor (Oscar-winning director of Frida), which will screen Thursday night in the PREMIERE section, at 7pm in the Sala Sinopoli.
The films in competition in the CINEMA 2007 section are El pasado (The Past) by Hector Babenco, starring Gael Garcia Bernal, at 4pm in the Sala Sinopoli, and Reservation Road by Irish filmmaker Terry George (Hotel Rwanda), starring Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Connelly, and Mira Sorvino, in the Sala Sinopoli at 10pm.
On the program in the ALICE NELLA CITTA’ section are Toku no Sora ni Kieta (Into the Faraway Sky) by Isao Yukisada (Sala Sinopoli at 10:30am) and Noonbushin Narae (Meet Mr. Daddy) by Kwang su Park (10:30am in the Salacinema IKEA).
All day screenings in the EXTRA/Other Visions section, starting at 5pm with King of Kong: a Fistful of Quarters by Seth Gordon (Teatro Studio), and at 8:30 in the Sala Petrassi with In Prison My Whole Life by Marc Evans. Capping off the evening are two screenings, Forbidden Lie$ by Anna Broinowski (Teatro Studio at 10:30pm) and Pop Skull by Adam Wingard (Sala Petrassi at 11pm).
Four films in the EXTRA/The Actor’s Craft section: two from the retrospective dedicated to the Actors Studio: The Last Picture Show by Peter Bogdanovich (9am in Studio 3) and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore by Martin Scorsese (11.30am in Studio 3), and another two on the program in the EXTRA/Sophia Loren section, at the Casa del Cinema — Sala Deluxe: Blood Feud by Lina Wertmuller at 6pm, and Between Strangers by Edoardo Ponti at 9pm.
