Only two days after the New Cinema Network has come to a close, and just before the monitoring process that will follow, hereafter are some numbers and data that reflect what NCN has been:
At the Casa del Cinema (October 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th):
The Meetings: 25 projectswere presented by 26 directors and 25 producers from 17 different countries (Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland, Estonia, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Vietnam). 61 invited producers attended the meetings, representing 55 production companies from 13 different countries.
Every project was introduced to an average number of 7 potential co-producers each day, with a total number of approximately 525 meetings.
The previous movies of the invited directors were made available to producers at the Video Library. More than 60 private screenings were registered.
Senior executives and Administrators of the MEDIA Programme, EURIMAGES, ACE and the Atélier of the Cannes Film Festival were invited to hold individual meetings with professionals attending. More than 60 meetings were scheduled.
Two Workshops focused on audiovisual financing strategies were held by Linda Beath, expert in international co-productions. Over 50 producers attended.
Three presentations were held by FILAS (Lazio Regional Fund in support of cinema and audiovisual enterprises), TDK (Blue Ray technology) e DFFF (German National Film Fund). More than 200 professionals attended.
Two events were organized in collaboration with German Films and Premio Solinas: the former was conceived to present young and promising German talents to Italian casting agents and producers and saw the participation of Domenico Procacci, Moira Mazzantini, Cinzia Th Torrini and Vania Traxler amongst others; the latter was organized with the Italian scriptwriting prize Premio Solinas and involved the winners of the editions from 2004 to present, who pitched their projects to a professional audience.
At the Burcardo Museum (October 21st):
Two Labs were held thanks to the generous participation and commitment of Simon Channing Williams, producer of Mike Leigh – Secrets and Lies and Vera Drake amongst others – and mentor of new talents such as Fernando Mireilles whose The Constant Gardener he has recently produced, and Dante Spinotti (D.O.P. of L.A. Confidential, TheLast of the Mohicans, Pinocchio, The Insider). The Labs were attended by the European directors of NCN, the Young Jury and the young producers of the European training programme MAIA Workshops.

Two Juries were at work during NCN:
The Projects Jury, composed of producers Cedomir Kolar (Oscar-winner for No Man’s Land), Simón de Santiago (Oscar-winner for Mar Adentro – The Sea Inside) and Rosanna Seregni (L’Enfer, Vodka Lemon) has awarded:
- MINI Prize for Best European Project toSlawomir Fabicki for ‘Bonobo Jingo’;
- SIAE Prize for Best Italian Project toMohsen Mellitifor ‘Return to Haifa’;
Two mentions were assigned to Dominique Lienhard for his project ‘Along the Main Road’ and Laurent Nègre with the project ‘Butano’.
The Young Juryfor Best First Feature Film, composed of 10 young filmmakers and headed by the Italian director Saverio Costanzo, was created for this edition with the support of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sport and in collaboration with the 3rd University of Rome and the National Film School / Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
The Young Jury has assigned:
- Clear Channel Prize for Best First Feature Filmto Gérald Hustache-Mathieu for‘Avril (April in Love)’.
The SIAE and Clear Channel Prizes were awarded during the New Cinema Network Closing Ceremony held at the Art Cafè on October 23rd.
The MINI Prize for Best European Project will be awarded toSlawomir Fabicki by Andrea Castronovo, President and CEO of BMW Italia, during the RomeFilmFest Award Ceremony on October 27th.
