On Monday October 14th, the iconic Cinecittà Studios, thanks to the Ministry of Culture, will host the Italian preview of Megalopolis, the most recent film by the maestro Francis Ford Coppola, the great director who has authored masterpieces such as the saga of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
This is the preopening event of the Rome Film Fest and Alice nella città 2024.
Distributed in Italy by Tarak Ben Ammar’s Eagle Pictures, the film will be introduced by Coppola himself.
The event will be live-streamed to Sala Petrassi at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone to allow accredited visitors and the public of the Rome Film Fest to attend the launch of the new visionary tale imagined by the director.
During the evening at Cinecittà, a special tribute will be paid to the great Italian-American director who returns, after many years, to the Studios in Rome in which he prepared several scenes from The Godfather Part III.
The next day, on Tuesday October 15th, Francis Ford Coppola will meet the juries of Alice nella città, film school students and the public in Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica: during the conversation, organized by Alice nella città in collaboration with the Rome Film Fest, the director will review his more than sixty-year career, which has made him one of the most important and celebrated masters of the Seventh Art.
On the same day, the Mayor of Roma Capitale, Roberto Gualtieri, will receive Coppola at the Campidoglio to dedicate a special tribute to him from the city.
Megalopolis will be released in theatres starting on October 16th, distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures. Written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, the film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne.
Synopsis
A brilliant artist with the power to stop time fights against an ultraconservative mayor to save the dying world and inspire hope. Megalopolis is a Roman epic set in a modern imaginary America. The city of New Rome is changing, causing bitter conflicts between Cesar Catilina, a brilliant artist trying to project himself into an idealistic utopian future, and his nemesis, the mayor Franklin Cicerone, a greedy and corrupt reactionary tied to a regressive status quo. Caught in the middle is Julia Cicerone, the mayor’s daughter who falls in love with Cesar Catilina and finds that she must choose who to be loyal to, and think about what humanity truly deserves.
