Starting tomorrow, Wednesday January 10th, Casa del Cinema will host a retrospective of twelve films to celebrate the work of Carlo Mazzacurati, who passed away ten years ago. Many of the protagonists of Italian cinema will be there to introduce his films to the audience.
The retrospective will be inaugurated by Paola Cortellesi who will present the screening of A cavallo della tigre (Riding the Tiger), a remake of the masterpiece of the same name by Luigi Comencini: the film shows the Roman actress in one of her first performances on the big screen (January 10th at 7:30 pm).
The following day (at 7:30 pm), it will be Nanni Moretti’s turn to introduce Notte italiana (Italian Night). The film was a triple debut: it was the first product of Moretti’s Sacher production company, the first screenplay written by Franco Bernini and the first film directed by Carlo Mazzacurati.
On Thursday January 18th at 7:30 pm, Valentina Lodovini will meet the public to present La giusta distanza (The Right Distance): the role of Mara won her the Biraghi Prize and a nomination for the David di Donatello for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
The next day, at the same time, Casa del Cinema will feature guest artist Antonio Albanese who will introduce Vesna va veloce (Vesna Goes Fast): for his performance, the actor won a nomination for the David and the Nastro d’Argento awards.
Monday January 22nd at 7:30 pm, viewers are invited to attend the screening of La sedia della felicità, Mazzacurati’s last film: the two stars, Valerio Mastandrea and Isabella Ragonese, will be on stage before the screening.
The film series dedicated to the Venetian filmmaker will close on Saturday January 27th at 7:30 pm with Giuseppe Battiston, who will present La passione (The Passion) to the audience.
The featured guests of Casa del Cinema will also include Edoardo Leo, who will introduce the documentary Luigi Proietti detto Gigi, an emotional and engaged tribute to the great Gigi Proietti whom Edoardo Leo had accompanied on his last tour. The event, which will be held on Sunday January 14th at 3:30 pm, is part of the cycle of screenings “Petrolini&Proietti”, scheduled through January 20th to celebrate the genius of early twentieth-century popular comic theatre, Ettore Petrolini, and that of his natural heir, Gigi Proietti.
