Fondazione Cinema per Roma presents Casa del Cinema’s programme for the month of September, which returns to the theatres indoors following the remarkable box office success of the outdoor summer arena: in three months of outdoor screenings, the Teatro Ettore Scola was often sold out, counting a total of over 25,000 spectators.
During the month of September, the spotlight will be focused on the legend of Marcello Mastroianni, one hundred years after his birth, with a retrospective titled “Viva Marcello” that will run through the end of October: a long journey from the 1950s to the 1990s, to review the extraordinary career of this great actor.
Two special events will be held as part of the retrospective. On Friday September 20th, on the day Sophia Loren celebrates her 90th birthday, there will be a screening of Marriage Italian Style (Matrimonio all’italiana) and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (Ieri, Oggi e Domani): the two films directed by Vittorio De Sica, starred Sophia Loren alongside Mastroianni, with whom she formed one of the most beloved couples in the history of cinema.
On Thursday September 26th, Mastroianni’s real birthday, two days before the day on which it was officially registered, his daughter Chiara will present to the public the film Marcello mio by Christophe Honoré and will meet the spectators along with other directors who worked with her father.
