Back to 1942by Feng Xiaogang and Nebesnye ženy lugovykh Mari(The Celestial Wives of the Meadow Mari) by Alexey Fedorchenko are the films in competition on the third day of the Festival. Adrien Brody will be walking the red carpet, along with the cast of Xiaogang’s film.
Out of competition, at 7:30 pm, the screening of the film Populaireby Regis Roinsard.
At 2:30 pm, the selection of Prospettive Italia will present the documentary by Marco Spagnoli Giuliano Montaldo – Quattro volte vent’anni about the director of The Fifth Day of Peace, Sacco and Vanzetti and Giordano Bruno. Montaldo will walk the first red carpet of the day. The competition of Prospettive Italia will feature Milleunanotteby Marco Santarelli and L’Isola dell’angelo caduto, the debut film by Carlo Lucarelli; the film will be preceded at 9:30 pm by the short film Il Gatto del Maineby Antonello Schioppa.
In the Sala Petrassi, CinemaXXI will present Tasher Desh (Land of Cards), the film in competition by the director Q, pseudonym of Indian director Kaushik Mukerjee. At 5:30 pm, in the Teatro Studio, on the occasion of the replica of Steekspel by Paul Verhoeven, the documentary Paul’s Experience, by the Dutch director himself, will also be screened. At 7:30 pm, the same theatre will be the venue for the screening of Random Acts, the programme of short films by twenty-five artists produced by Jacqui Davies for Channel 4. At 9 pm, El ojo del tiburòn by Alejo Hoijman. The programme of the day of CinemaXXI will end at the MAXXI with the third session of CinemaXXI Breve. In the same theatre, at 2:30 pm, Flashback – Film brevi will be shown for the Retrospective “Cinema Espanso”. A special event will be held in Teatro Studio, where at 9 pm, to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary, the restored copy of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece Full Metal Jacket will be screened: the film will be accompanied by the video Full Metal Joker, the documentary dedicated by Emiliano Montanari to the “Joker” Matthew Modine.
The Festival programme at the Cinema Barberini will present, at 9 am in Sala 2, O Fantasma do Novais by Margarida Gil; at 11 am, in the same theatre, Carlo! by Fabio Ferzetti and Gianfranco Giagni. In Sala 1 at 4 pm, Centro Històrico by Aki Kaurismäki, Pedro Costa, Victor Erice and Manoel de Oliveira. Further screenings will include A Walk in the Park at 6 pm and Back to 1942 at 8:30 pm. The last screening will be at 10:30 pm with Aku No Kyôten by Takashi Miike.
The sidebar Alice nella città will present, in the Salacinema Lotta, for the special programme “Images and words”, Kirikou et les hommes et les femmes, an animated film by French director Michel Ocelot. In the tent of Casa Alice the programme of the day will present the tribute to French writer Tomi Ungerer: at 2 pm, Tiffany e i tre briganti by Hayo Freitag, at 4 pm, Moon Man by Stephan Schesch, at 6 pm Far out isn’t far enough: the Tomi Ungerer story by Brad Bernstein.
