Release – Tribeca Festival announces partnership with RomeFilmFest
[New York] – The Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) today announced that it will collaborate with the new Rome Film Fest which is scheduled to take place October 13 – 21, 2006 in Rome, Italy. TFF will present a number of highlights from its Spring 2006 edition at the Rome Film Fest. Specific film titles will be announced at a later date. Plans for the Rome Film Fest to offer some of its outstanding programs for screening at the next edition of TFF, April 25 – May 6, 2007, are also in the works.

“The collaboration between the two festivals cements the cultural bond between the two cities – New York and Rome. The Rome Film Fest has put together a varied program for its inaugural festival, and we at Tribeca are proud to be sharing some of our jurors´ favorite films in Rome,” said Jennifer Maguire Isham, President of the Tribeca Film Festival. “We hope this is just the beginning of a long collaboration.”

“Like New York before the arrival of the Tribeca Film Festival, Rome is a great city which has somehow never presented a large film festival on the scale of other cities of its size,” said Peter Scarlet, Executive Director of the Tribeca Film Festival. “Yet such a festival seems a natural development, for both cities, which are not only major production centers but in addition, serve as the point of entry for films from other nations to enter the cultural bloodstream of their respective countries.”
The partnership was initiated when the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Film Fest became cultural sponsors of the 5th annual Tribeca Film Festival in April 2006.
The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff as a response to the attacks on the World Trade Center. Conceived to foster the economic and cultural revitalization of Lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music, and culture, the Festival´s mission is to promote New York City as a major filmmaking center and help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience. The Festival is anchored in Tribeca and takes place in additional neighborhoods throughout Manhattan featuring screenings, special events, concerts, a family street fair, and panel discussions.
