Shane Meadows: “Thomas will be saved now”

Shane Meadows, winner of the Special Jury prize for This is England, thanked audiences and the RomeFilmFest: “Twelve months ago, the young actor in this film was going through a dramatic period in his life and had no chances. A year later, he is getting a prize with the others that could change his life. Thank you.”

One of the collateral prizes, the L.A.R.A. Award for Best Italian Performer (of the Libera Associazione Rappresentanti Artisti, presided over by Moira Mazzantini), chosen from among the Italian films of all the sections, have been awarded to Ninetto Davoli for his turn in Uno su due by Eugenio Cappuccio. The L.A.R.A.jury was presided over by Carol Levi and the prize was presented by Ornella Muti.
The actor’s first comments were: “I’m as emotional as on an opening night, it pleases me and makes me happy because I’ve received few awards in my life. This one comes after 42 years of working. The first film I made, in 1964, was The Gospel According to St. Matthew. You can all imagine to whom I dedicate this award. It is thanks to him that I am here”.
