Gian Luca Farinelli is the new President of Fondazione Cinema per Roma. He has been appointed March 28 2022, by the Board of Founding Members.
Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in film restoration, with over eight hundred projects presented at the most important international festivals and events, Director of the Cineteca di Bologna since 2000, creator of the “Il Cinema Ritrovato” festival, essayist, Professor and curator of famous exhibitions, Gian Luca Farinelli will be at the helm of the Board of Directors.
“The first thing I would like to do is thank Laura Delli Colli, who remains on the Board of Directors and preceded me as President: her work has been exemplary – said Gian Luca Farinelli. Rome has been one of a small number of film cities in the world since 1910: if we were to take away all the masterpieces filmed in Rome, the international imaginary would be quite different. Mayor Gualtieri has asked me to work on an ambitious project, worthy of the city’s film history. The challenge is a fascinating one, especially at a time like this of great uncertainty and change. I carry with me forty years of experience in cinema, which I hope will be useful in building a plural festival, more deeply-rooted in the city, with a stronger identity, that brings the best of international cinema to Rome and becomes a prestigious national and international showcase for this great creative moment in Italian cinema”.
