For the second year in a row, the Rome Film Fest symbolically breaks down the barrier between the city and the prison, and returns to Rebibbia. Between October 30th and November 2nd, the Rome Film Fest will come to the Auditorium of the New Complex at Rebibbia, while on November 3rd, for the first time, it will go to the “Melograno” movie theatre in the women’s ward, the Casa Circondariale Femminile di Roma Rebibbia.
The first event is scheduled for Monday October 30th, with the premiere of “Hamlet in Rebibbia“, a performance that will be streamed live in full-HD from the prison connected directly to the Auditorium of the MAXXI museum, the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa, the Teatro dell’Arca (inside the District Penitentiary of Marassi), the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari and the Teatro Eliseo in Nuoro. “Hamlet in Rebibbia” is a new work by the inmate actors, who previously starred in the Taviani brother’s Cesare deve morire, and are now working with Shakespeare’s most famous play, directed by Fabio Cavalli. Before the play, there will be a screening of the short film SalviAmo la faccia by Giulia Merenda. The event is a product of the collaboration between the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Live Performance at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, with production by La Ribalta – Centro Studi Enrico Maria Salerno.
The next day, Tuesday October 31st, at 4 pm, the screening will feature Una questione privata (A Private Affair) by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, from the lineup of the Official Selection of the Rome Film Fest, while Wednesday November 1st at 4 pm, the film Terapia di coppia per amanti by Alessio Maria Federici will be introduced by the live music of the band Daiana Lou. The film was shown as one of the Rome Film Fest pre-opening events.
On November 2nd at 4 pm, the featured film will be Borotalco by Carlo Verdone, in the version restored by Infinity to celebrate the thirty-fifth anniversary of its release in theatres. Italian actress Eleonora Giorgi will attend the screening. All events are free admission, with reservation required while seats last (information and reservations www.enricomariasalerno.it).
On November 3rd, at 11 am, the Rome Film Fest comes for the first time to the “Melograno” movie theatre at the Casa Circondariale Femminile di Roma Rebibbia (the Women’s District Penitentiary). The event will feature the participation of the inmates and students from schools and universities in Rome, who will attend the screening of the film The Band Wagon by Vincent Minelli, presented at the Rome Film Fest, and of the short film SalviAmo la faccia, made by the women inmates and directed by Giulia Merenda. The event at the Casa Circondariale Femminile di Roma Rebibbia is part of the “SalviAmo la faccia” project to fight gender violence and advance women’s empowerment, supported by the Equal Opportunity Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and operated by the Cpia 1 in Rome (the Provincial Centre for Adult Education) and by “Ossigeno per l’informazione”.
