#RomaFF14 | “The Irishman” by Martin Scorsese will be presented at the 14th Rome Film Fest

The Irishman by Martin Scorsese will be presented at the 14^th Rome Film Fest on Monday, October 21^st. The announcement was made by Artistic Director Antonio Monda and Laura Delli Colli, President of Fondazione Cinema per Roma, in agreement with General Manager Francesca Via.
“The participation of The Irishman as the centerpiece at the Rome Film Fest is a great honour for me and for everyone working at the Fest. The Irishman is the most highly anticipated film of the year and boasts an exceptional cast: the decision to present it in Rome is yet another acknowledgment of how the Fest has grown over the years.” – stated Antonio Monda.
In his new film, the American maestro, auteur of a remarkable series of masterpieces, brings to the screen an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America: the story is seen through the eyes of Frank Sheeran, a World War II veteran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the twentieth century. Spanning decades, The Irishman chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

The cast is a stellar one: beside two legends in the history of cinema such as Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, respectively in the roles of Frank Sheeran and Jimmy Hoffa, the other outstanding actors include Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham. The film is adapted from the novel by Charles Brandt “I Heard You Paint Houses”, while the screenplay is by Steven Zaillian, who had previously worked with Scorsese on Gangs of New York. The Irishman will be in select theatres and on Netflix in the fall.
Several other events have already been announced for the coming Rome Film Fest, including the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bill Murray, to be conferred by Wes Anderson, and the Close Encounters with Bret Easton Ellis, Ron Howard, who will present his documentary on Pavarotti, Olivier Assayas, who will talk about the Nouvelle Vague, and Bertrand Tavernier who will analyse the cinema of Renoir, Bresson and Clouzot.
