The Rome Film Fest mourns for the loss of Andrzej Wajda

The Rome Film Fest expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of Andrzej Wajda. The Polish filmmaker had chosen the Roman fest for the European premiere of his latest film, Powidoki (Afterimage), which will be screened on Friday October 14^th. In addition, on Monday October 17^th, the Polish Institute in Rome will organize a screening of Man of Marble in its headquarters in Via V. Colonna 1.
“Afterimage is a powerful reflection on art and power – explained Piera Detassis – What is striking in this film, and in all of Wajda’s work, is his capacity to always be relevant, to transcend national borders and speak a universal language. The sincerity of Wajda’s cinema, his social commitment and dissent remain intact in his last intense film, which we are proud to present to the audience of the Rome Film Fest”.
“Andrzej Wajda was a giant among filmmakers – explained Antonio Monda – Throughout his seventy-year career he made pure art out of cinema that constantly reflected on the relationship between freedom and dictatorship, art and power. He personally experienced Nazism and Communism, but like a true artist, he was able to avoid the pitfalls and expedients of protest films. I am honoured to present his last extraordinary film, Afterimage, here at the Rome Film Fest, which we will follow, as a tribute, with one of his masterpieces, Man of Marble”
