The battle to free her son, Murat, from Guantanamo Bay prison takes Turkish housewife Rabiye Kurnaz from her home in Germany to the Supreme Court in Washington, where she lodges a lawsuit against George W. Bush. She is aided by human rights lawyer Bernhard Docke.
COMMENTARY
Rabiye Kurnaz, a loving mother and housewife of Turkish descent from Bremen, and Bernhard Docke, a human rights lawyer, decide to join forces to fight for the release of Murat, son of Rabiye, from Guantanamo. Side by side, they make it all the way to the Supreme Court, lodging a lawsuit against George W. Bush. Bernhard takes care of Rabiye, and she makes him laugh, heart and soul. In the end, against all odds, something extraordinary happens. The film won two awards at the Berlin Film Festival: Best Screenplay for Laila Stieler and Best Actress for Meltem Kaptan.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
When we learn of major political matters in the media, we often resign ourselves because we feel there’s nothing much we can do about them. But then, suddenly, it seems that we can! A Turkish housewife, starting out from Bremen, can strike out against the President of the United States and win.
